The Real "Bag" Is Too Big For Your Comfort Zone

The Real "Bag" Is Too Big For Your Comfort Zone

Comfort Zone: (noun) A place or situation where one feels safe or at ease and without stress. In our comfort zone there is a sense of familiarity, security and certainty. These are all good feelings correct? However, there are absolutely NO challenges in the comfort zone, which means there is also no growth.

When I thought about starting my own business, I knew that I would have to drastically increase my social life and my overall presence because it plays a huge part in running a successful business. It was definitely something I was uncomfortable with but it was necessary! When we step out of our comfort zone we're taking risks and exposing ourselves to possible stresses and anxiety, but doing so can help us embrace greater possibilities and make changes in our life that can lead to real personal growth. One thing is for sure, a boss isn't afraid to take risks and speak their mind.

I've stepped out of my comfort zone a few times since starting my business and each time I was reminded why there is nothing to be afraid of. Each time taught me a valuable lesson about business and growth. I know that it's easier said than done, but we struggle to step out of our comfort zones because we're wired to seek security; humans are creatures of comfort. Our comfort zone is our natural- neutral state, a place where stress and anxiety are minimal. We know what’s coming next and can plan accordingly. Being comfortable is cool to a certain extent but it makes maximizing your potential much harder.

Everyone wants to "get in their bag," but what everyone doesn't realize is: the real bag is too big for your comfort zone. You have to choose one or the other! Here are some reasons why stepping out of that comfort zone makes more sense than staying in it.

1. Challenging yourself can help you perform at your peak- Challenging yourself is very important universal factor in personal growth.

2.Taking risks is what helps us grow- As children we are natural risk takers but as we get older we learn failure and hold ourselves back.

3. Trying new things can make you more creative- Creativity is risky, when we share our creative work we open ourselves up to vulnerability and possible rejection. At the same time, we open ourselves up to new learning experiences and opportunities for success.

I know being out of the norm is not always easy, but I'm not telling you it will be easy. I'm telling you it will be worth it!
